The City of London, origins and identity 3 hrs

The City of London is the special district that occupies the oldest portion of the London urban agglomeration where the Romans initially founded the city of Londinium around the year 40 AD.

Today this area is the modern financial district of the capital, its medieval streets are a mix of history and contemporaneity, between medieval monuments and dizzying skyscrapers, old stone and modern steel.

Fascinating and ambiguous, this area of the city tells how London was founded at the hands of Romans, then conquered by the Anglo-Saxon and Norman peoples and how various historical events, including the great fire of 1666, shaped the identity of the capital up to our own days.
